POAC Walk for a Difference Recap

We walked for POAC - the local autism organization at the Blue Claws stadium on April 24th, 2010.

This was a big accomplishment for Alex who just a few years ago wouldn't even enter the Blue Claws stadium without flopping down on the cement walkway and having a full blown meltdown. So, since that very stressful (for him & us) day - we had been avoiding the Blue Claws stadium.. not brave enough to try again. I decided that with all the great progress he has done, we'd try it again and since so much time has passed maybe it would be a distant memory for him and we'd get lucky with no repeat. The goods news... it was!

Grandma was there with us! The kids had a really nice weekend with grandma - lots of smiles and laughs and the walk was so much fun for everyone who went. Gorgeous day to get out there and get a little exercise and raise money for an organization that helps so much.

The kids also loved playing in the bean table that was sponsored by Key To Me Therapy. This is always a hit at community events.

This is Isabelle and her friends! On each side of her is a little girl who has autism but it doesn't matter at all to Isabelle - autism or not, they are her little bffs!!!! The girls walked 3 laps holding hands. This is what it is all about!!!

Alex LOVED "the autism car".

This is the same autism car that I pulled up next to (in the rain) at the very beginning of the month. Really, it is the coolest - and the owner Jim Sweetman was very kind and let Alex sit in it and get a lot of pictures. Alex would like me to get rid of the minivan and get a 'puzzle piece' car.
