Each bubble represents HOPE.
Hope for the future and Hope for all the children and families of children on the Autism Spectrum.
This is an event that I throw together each year, an informal (but getting more formal each year) playdate among friends. I always try to invite a handful of kids and parents of children on the autism spectrum and my friends.
This year, I posted it as an event on facebook and also added it to a mothers group calendar that I am a part of. Simply BYOB (bring your own bubbles) and meet at Windward Beach Park at 11am....
We had a gorgeous day.. in the 70s here at the Jersey Shore - the sun was out, there was a slight breeze. It was absolutely perfect.. Well, pretty close to that.
The kids all had fun swinging on the swings, playing on the playground and in the sand. Alex was particularly fascinated with the bugs (ants) and had a few conversations with them. We lasted from 10:45 til almost 1:30 with only 1 minor meltdown/fight between my kids. The biggest issue had to be that the park bathrooms were shut which made things interesting (to say the least).
Still.. an interesting social observation was that while the kids all played together the moms not so much. We had the autism moms and the typical moms and there was very little overlap. One mom of typical kids was previously a special ed teacher - she overlapped. I felt like I had a toe in both crowds but felt somehow more connected to the autism moms, especially given the fact we were all chasing and making sure our kids didn't make a run for the water or the parking lot. So, perhaps I'm guilty as charged as well.
Still..
What a special day!

That is a LOVELY idea, I might have to "borrow" it next year!
You are such a good organizer! I would never think to do this, but how successful! Love the photographs too!
