Who's Afraid of Santa?

We went to the Brick Challenger Christmas party tonight.
Guess who is afraid of Santa?

Not Alex!

...But, my typical daughter is. She wouldn't go near Santa even though she knew if she sat on his lap she would get a gift and that gift might even possibly be a Barbie... No, she would have no part of it. How ironic is it that one of the only "typical" kids in the room is the one that is afraid of Santa. Meanwhile all the autistic kids couldn't get into Santa's lap fast enough!! Go figure. Our kid is the coward. I felt so bad for her and tried to prod her to go to Santa's lap by offering to go sit on his lap with her but she was having no part of it. Oh well, maybe next year.

There was a time when this party was "too much" for Alex. But, today he did pretty darn good despite the loud music, etc. They have a DJ spinning Christmas music and the kids have to wait in line to go and sit on Santa's lap to get a gift. He did fine - nice waiting and then sat on Santa's lap, smiled, thanked Santa, gave Santa a hug. I brought his own snacks with us (gluten free cookies and pretzels) since the snacks they had there were off limits for the most part. He saw some friends there and even went over and tried to play with some of them right where the loud music was playing. He was fine, until we left - then he somehow managed to trip and fall over his own feet and hurt his knee/bruised his ego. So, it didn't end on the best note. But, overall the party was a win!

Thank You and Happy Holidays to Brick Challenger :)
