Pink Eye dosing has turned out to be even more of an adventure than I ever imagined.
My daughter continues to let me put the drops right in her eyes with no fuss, no muss. She says they tickle!
My son, not so much. He doesn't like the drops - I am sure it is related to his sensory issues. This same child doesn't like his nails clipped or ears cleaned out - either. The pin down and pry the drops approach worked somewhat when I had an extra adult. But for 2 out of the 3 doses, its just me.
I decided to try to bargain with him. Didn't work.
I took a tickle approach (since Baby Sister claimed they tickle) and it worked better. At least, in that he wasn't upset or fighting. But he was still squirming. A lot.
Last night I was giving him his last dose before bed and had got the drops into one eye without much trouble. When I went to do the second eye - he started in on jerking his head quickly to try to dodge the drop. He was giggling madly and wasn't upset or screaming. Unfortunately he darted quickly and ended up smashing his head into our coffee table. This was around 9pm, of course.
I feared it would be time for stitches but the cut was able to be closed with some glue and steri-strips. Days like this I am extremely thankful we have a doctor in the family!

Ouch!
glad he's okay.
just so you know, I think it's now recommended you don't clean inside the ear. can't remember where I got that info., but you may want to check it out.
one less chore :)
Eek! Is this your son's first coffee table injury? My boys each have noticeable dents in their foreheads from toddler-coffee table collisions.
Do you make him wear a helmet now at eye-drop time?
Poor baby =( glad that he is ok.
My youngest (10) hates eye drops, always has. I wish that I had a trick for you but, as you see mine is 10 and still doesn't like them.
Matt can tolerate nail clipping and ear cleaning, Nick sulks the whole time for nail time and does his own ears, thankfully.
Hope Alex is okay now. I watched some great joint compressions videos on you tube the other day, sent one to Matts aide to watch and maybe do at school for his arms.
Poor kid. Glad he's alright.
I hate pinkeye. NEVER had it until I had kids. Now I keep getting it!
I read somewhere that you can put the drops in the corner of their closed eye and they will still seep in. I guess by now you are over this, but maybe it will help someone else...
Once at the doctor I watched a mom checking out at the end and not paying attention, and her daughter with a horribly goopy eye played ALL OVER the booths on the WELL SIDE. Touched her eye and then touched EVERY.Thing. I was horrified. Got a nurse immediately & she had someone clean it up. YECK!
So sorry about the injury, glad it wasn't worse!
