She went to bed last night without our nightly fight, I told her that she had preschool in the morning and she went right to sleep for me. On days we need to get going she is famous for sleeping in but this morning she was up bright as sunshine and told me she wanted to go to preschool. She picked out her outfit, we did her hair (she just wanted it 'down and curly') and she wanted her fingernails and toenails painted the brightest of pink. She then proceeded to pack her Hello Kitty backpack (that is bigger than she is) and loaded up her chic little brown and pink snackpack - even though I informed her that it wasn't actually school today - it was orientation and that Mama would be going with her to meet her new teacher and check it out. She was ready to go.. so off we headed to the mommy-mobile.
Once we got to the school - the tune changed quite a bit. As we headed down the hallway to her class she stopped walking happily beside me and started to cling to me like staticky socks on pajamas. By the time we got to her class she was begging "holda-me.. holda me". Even seeing one of her friends ... she was having second thoughts about this preschool thing and would have no part of it. We managed to her distracted a bit into playing with some of the toys in the class and with a few other little girls. The teacher (who seems very nice) called the kids to sit on the carpet and she played along (surprisingling well). After a short little intro speech the teacher then dismissed the kids from the rug and told them to go and play amongst themselves so she could talk to the parents. At this point, Belle ran over to me and announced "I'm done". We went and checked out the bathroom in the classroom - she told me that "the potty is too small" - its one of those ankle high ones but with real plumbing. She did like the low sink....I'm sure the teachers will LOVE that since she is the queen of 'potching' in the sink and dawdling. After investigating the bathroom we headed back to the tables where they passed out nametags for backpacks and name stickers for the first day. Belle ordered me to "THROW THEM IN THE TRASH" while she was proclaiming "I WANT TO GET OUT OF HERE". If I could have fit under the 2 foot tall table, I would have. On the way home she asked me why one of the teachers (aides) has grey hair and asked if she was a Grandma. Methinks that the preschool transition is going to be a Rocky Road.

The only thing that saved the day was when I asked her if she thought her teacher was pretty, she responded by telling me "not as pretty as you, mama!"
Wish us luck for Thursday - the first official day.

Thats not too bad! It could always be worse. ;)
That is so PRECIOUS! My little one, my granddaughter Joscelyn started preschool last week. Reading your experience just made me giggle! Such a CUTE FUNNY age!

Don't feel bad - my kids have never been clingy (in fact, I get more upset about leaving them than they do), but even they cried on the first day of preschool. By the time I picked them up, they were fine. Enjoy your free mornings!
Pre-school was the first place Diva didn't cling to me and cry. Kindergarden was harder on her - the classroom was chaotic. Today she started 4th grade with a teacher she knows and all of the same kids from her class last year - she still wanted me to walk her in and took awhile to adjust.
Don't worry, after a few fun art projects, some new songs, and dress-up with the other girls, she'll forget all about wanting to GET OUTTA HERE! :0)
