Enjoy Life Foods Soft Baked No-Oats Oatmeal Gluten-Free Cookies

Today's GF/CF Friday review is of No Oats "Oatmeal" Cookies from Enjoy Life Foods. When it comes to cookies, I do prefer to make my own but I simply do not always have the time for it. So, I try to keep a few packages of "safe" cookies in my pantry to have on hand. It is nice to be able to open the pantry and toss a snack into my bag to bring along when we go to a friends house or "just in case" we are going someplace where I don't know what kind of food choices will be available. One of my son's absolute favorite cookies has to be these No Oats "Oatmeal" cookies from Enjoy Life.

These cookies are:

Vegan
Gluten Free
Casein Free
Nut Free
Kosher Pareve
Contain no artificial anything
Made in a dedicated bakery
Trans-Fat Free

I find these at my local health food store and even at Shop-Rite now (yay!) for $3.99 a box. Each box has 12 just bigger than bite size soft-baked cookies inside. So, how is it an oatmeal cookie if there are no oats? The cookies are made with brown rice flakes, raisins, and cinnamon - for sweeteners they also contain fruit juice as well as brown pure cane sugar. If you close your eyes and sniff them you would think this is definitely a 'regular' old-fashioned oatmeal cookie. One thing for certain though is that these smell 100 times better than they look - which is nothing like a traditional oatmeal cookie and more like a lump of youknowwhat. As for taste - pretty darn good.. to me the cinnamon overpowers the oatmeal taste so you need to appreciate cinnamon to be a fan of these. I do have 2 warnings about these cookies. The first is that the consistency takes a bit of getting used to - especially the rice flakes which are crunchy and chewy at the same time. The second is that since the box only contains 12 cookies and they are very small - well, it doesn't last very long. When left with open access to them my son alone can easily devour an entire box over an evening, not to mention if his little sister "helps". These cookies absolutely meet with a Thumbs Up!

Neat! Now I haven't seen this version. We love the chocolate chip, the brownie and the snickerdoodles but I haven't seen these.

I'll have to be on the lookout.

I agree, though, they can be expensive if you run through them quickly (like we do.)
